SITXFSA001, SITXFSA002 Food Safety Course

These units cover the skills and knowledge for basic personal and hygiene practices where food is handled, stored, prepared, displayed or served to consumers by cooks, chefs, caterers, kitchen stewards, kitchen hands, bar and food, and beverages attendants. The units also deliver the required skills and knowledge to oversee and ensure ongoing adherence required to work as a qualified food safety supervisor. The NSW Food Authority has mandated that at least one person in very retail foodservice sector is to have at least on trained Food Safety Supervisor.* **http://www.foodauthority.nsw.gov.au/rp/fss-food-safety-supervisors *Note: ATQ College is not currently a registered provider of the NSW Food Authority Food Safety Supervisor course. *CAREER OPPORTUNITY: Further equips cooks, chefs, caterers, kitchen stewards, kitchen hands, bar and food and beverages attendants with further knowledge and skills required to hygienically practice and handle food safely.

Entry requirement

ATQ College has the following entry conditions:

Student Age:
Students must also be aged 18 years or above at the time of enrolment

Academic Entry Requirements:
High school completion – Year 12 or equivalent

English Language, Literacy & Numeracy (LLN): All prospective students must complete the LLN robot test based on the Austrralian Core Skills Framework (ACSF). These units have an ACSF level of 1-2.

Credit Transfer/Recognition of prior learning (RPL):We offer recognition of prior learning and credit transfer arrangements – contact us for more information and to find out if you are eligible.

Additional Requirement: All prospective students must be currently working in a food services area with access to a workplace supervisor and commercial kitchen.

Learner resource requirement: Learners will need access to a computer and the internet for self study with the following specifications

-Microsoft Office 2007 or above and

-Microsoft Windows 2000 or Mac OS X

-Learners will also need access to a printer and the following applications:Adobe Acrobat Reader and Macromedia Flash player.



Course Duration

5 days – Full-time study which consists of:

– 2 days of classroom training (theory classes) : 14 hours
– 3 days practical classes held in an industry workplace environment : 21 hours

– Learners are required to set aside approximately 5 hours for self-paced study, 4 hours for self-study and an additional 1 hour for assessment tasks.

*Practical Workplace Address: The Butcher’s Lunch – Shop C, 139a Queens Street, Ashfield
