CHC50113 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care


CHC50113 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care is a nationally recognised and accredited child care qualification which prepares you to work in a range of early childhood settings with children up to five years of age. It is suitable if you are just starting a child care career and if you are developing and formalising your child care abilities. You will learn about the about the intellectual, social, emotional, physical and educational needs of children, how to support their rights and safety, and the wellbeing of infants.

Entry requirement

The students in the CHC50113 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care will be Australian students who meet the below entry requirements of:

-Academic Requirements: High school completion – Year 12 or equivalent

-Age: must be over 18

-Interview: All prospective students are required to participate in an interview with one of the Student Support Officers of ATQ College. The outcome of this interview together with the outcome of the LLN test report with the completed interview will be forwarded to the VET Academic Manager to assess their suitability & capacity to undertake the course. The interview may be in person or via the phone/skype. The subjects covered by the Diploma require a degree of maturity and commitment with students being involved extensively in practical demonstration and simulated work sessions.

-Language, Literacy and Numeracy requirements:

English Entry Requirements
-An individual undertaking this program requires well developed language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) skills relevant to the context of their role. All prospective students must complete the LLN Robot test based on the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF). This qualification has an ACSF level of 4.

 

-Technology and literacy requirements: Learners will need access to a computer and the internet with the following specifications:

-Microsoft Office 2007 or above and

-Microsoft Windows 2000 or Mac OS X

-Learners will also need access to a printer and the following applications: Adobe Acrobat Reader and Macromedia Flash player.

-Sound computer skills are required that include using intermediate level Word features. Ability to produce and present word-processed documents/ reports and undertake internet research.

-As part of the learning cycle students may be required to undertake online research or activities each week in class during term time.

-Other requirements:

-Students will need to be reasonably physically fit as the role of an
educator involves a variety of tasks that require a reasonable amount of
physical activity, such as personal care of children, lifting and cleaning.
Educators spend time sitting on the floor with children and also on small
chairs and also need to be able to get down to the child’s level to obtain
eye contact.

-Students need to be able to relate to children and their families and have
a keen interest to assist children to learn, have good problem solving
skills, sound literacy and numeracy skills, be enthusiastic, tactful, patient
and with a sense of humour. Long day care centres are open usually
between 7am to 7.00pm so a willingness to work outside of standard
hours is desirable.

-Students need to hold a current Working with Children Check

Course Duration

Total 74 weeks

60 weeks study: 6 terms x 10 weeks of study
and 14 weeks break

*Mode of study and contact hours: Blended as follows

-Classroom (Face to face): 21 hours per week term 1 (210 hours) and 14 hours per week terms 2-8 (980 hours)

-Self-paced Study(Online): 10 hours per week

– Work placement: a minimum of 350 hours of work placement between Term 2 and Term 6 over the two-year duration of the course (based on 7 hours per week over 50 weeks and less the 87.5 hours to conduct assessment in the workplace)

Students will complete work placement in a approved child Care centre to ensure it can provide a suitable environment to gather practical experiences across all tasks outlined in the units of competency.

*To complete the course, you must meet other requirements as followings:

– Compulsory Workplace Training: This course has a mandatory workplace training component. Students are required to complete a minimum of 350 hours of work placement between Term 2 and Term 6.

This is in addition to the face to face training. ATQ college will assist students find a work-placement or students may elect to nominate their own work placement, to be approved by ATC college.

– Learners need to be reasonably physically fit as the role involves providing direct personal care, lifting and other physically demanding activities.

– Learners need to meet the requirements of the Children’s Services organisation in order to complete their work placement. It is the responsibility of the learner to check their Workplace Organisation’s requirements.
